If you don’t live and breathe online marketing it can all seem a little overwhelming…
Having spent most of my time between the ages of 11 and 21 behind a computer screen, on Facebook (or Bebo), MSN and blogs, I turned into an “online sponge” soaking up everything I came across. Best practices, what works and what doesn’t. As well as which businesses were really rocking the online world and which could do better.
This was where the techy side of my passion for online marketing started. For ‘fun’ I read as many books about web design and marketing, hacked and mucked around with HTML (web code) until I was seeing it in my sleep, and then all of a sudden it all clicked.
Aged 16 I had my first paying web design client (a German Shepherd breeder!) and it all started from there. I went on and worked for two years at an international tax & business news publisher, firstly as web researcher, and then as a member of their web design team.
My other passion is marketing and sales. I love the whole promotions process; starting with a product, planning a strategy and then putting that strategy into action. Whether you’re selling a product, a candidate or a belief (of which I have done all three – selling products, political candidates and referendum beliefs – No2AV Referendum 2011) it’s the same process throughout. I spent almost 2 1/2 years in different sales, promotions and business development roles for two corporate firms, one local business and an expanding local magazine.
So the online marketing skills I bring to the table aren’t just focused on geeky concepts and ideas, they’re based on real life working examples and experience.
There are so many businesses that struggle to make the most out of the Internet, through lack of skills, knowledge, time and money. I hope to help them overcome these (minor) hurdles to really make the most of what the Internet has to offer.
I’m not an ‘online guru’
On a daily basis I see people claiming to be ‘an expert, a guru, a genie’ if you say that kind of stuff, it probably means you aren’t. I don’t claim to be any of these things.
What I am though, is someone with years of proven online and sales experience, with a passion for helping smaller firms get noticed online. This means I know what attracts, what works and I know what is technically possible.
I aim to make online marketing easy. Once you know the steps to successfully marketing online, anyone can do it.
